Genre Research

The purpose of genre research is to find the conventions of the genre itself. Audiences can get used to different genres and so these conventions and techniques are recognised more frequently. The conventions provide a structure that audiences can understand. The conventions established through the use of technical elements such as mise-en-scène, camerawork, sound and editing. These elements are used differently according to the type of music the video is hosting so the music fits with the video. The genre I would like to research and become proficient in making a video for is alternative rock.

From the video content analysis I found the conventions of alternative rock. Conventions such as shot number, shot length and amount of scenes. From doing this research I concluded that there were 57 shots across 26 scenes with an average shot length of 4.38 seconds. This will give me an idea of the duration of each shot in order to adhere to the convention.
