Production Concepts Response

Completing the task of surveying my target audience my initial concept ideas will ensure I am heading in the correct direction with my narrative, as well as my character ideas, setting, setting and costume etc. I created this questionnaire in Google Forms so I could easily embed it into my work and also easily send it to my target audience to fill out.

Production Concepts Response Summary

Detailed Outline

The main character of the music video is a beat up, down on his luck, depressed young male (17-18). The music video will revolve around a period in his life where his actions mirror that of a seasoned drug junkie. In his efforts to keep up his jaded addiction he requires money. This is where the subject matter of the song comes into play. The song, The 1975 - M.O.N.E.Y has substance abuse undertones and relates to the struggle between friends, money and drugs and the music video will second this intention.

As an ordinary period of time for the main character of the music video but it is a shocking glimpse into substance abuse at such a young age. We see the main character deal with public perception, the lack of respect, opposition, the lack of money, and of course the effect of administering narcotics.

The beginning of the music video will show the character's reflection, as if he is turning away from using crime to aid his cruel addiction. This is administered in a bar where the protagonist begins to leave, until the bar-keep stops him about dropping a wallet. To which the main character sees and discards the notion and leaves. The wallet was stolen prior in the story and features a picture of the previous owner's children. This thought triggers a retrospective flashback that is seconded by the starting of the song.

After a glimpse of the rural setting we see the character come to grips with his addiction by abusing it. After inserts of drug preparation we see that this behaviour is all just to 'fit into' what is already a small town.

We see that the main character has some run-ins with the local police. This is the effect of the character mishandling situations and acting aggressively. An example of this behaviour would be fights in the streets, and police finding his actions suspicious after he has administered illegal substances.

Towards the end of the music video we see that the wallet he viciously robbed from a passer-by contains a photo of the previous owner's family. This heart-wrenching discovery puts the teenage junkie's life in perspective. The real owner of this wallet most-likely needed this money to maintain his family's needs and wants; and he took it for his own malicious needs and wants. Towards the beginning of the music video we see him leave the pub after discarding the empty wallet. Events following this occurrence is ambiguous to the audience; the audience doesn't know if this trauma has any effect on his naive addiction. It's for them to decide.

Detailed Outline Response

The Detailed Outline appears to please most of my target audience. Apart from those who might find the plot to be a little 'grim', responses seem to show that this outline is conventional for the genre of alternative rock.

Character Profiles

As said in the outline the main character is a 17-18 year old male. He has been introduced into illegal substances early into his life by his so called peers. Ever since he has been breaking the law and performing malicious acts in order to afford to put his addiction at bay. Violence and aggression is a large influence on this character, alongside the destructive nature of alcohol, the character's behaviour is erratic and unpredictable, and certainly not appreciated.

The actor for the character would have to wear the stereotypical clothing in order for the narrative to look genuine. Similarly they would have to emulate the attitudes of this character to seem believable.

All the people that I asked a response from responded with good comments. Agreeing that the pitch highlights the idea and 'considers the conventions of both genre and form very well', the comments from the participants of this survey show that I am along the right track.

The default placeholder text fonts of Proxima Nova Black etc. were used to get a rough idea of the way I wanted the album poster to look. In order to be most conventional I asked for my target audience's opinion through a survey. (Results haven't been processed as of yet).
I asked my target audience what font they prefered, why and what font they thought was more conventional for alternative rock.

Ancillary Draft Layouts Response

As my target audience found my draft layouts too similar to that of a rap album, I altered it to seem a little more conventional for alternative rock.
